BRINGING REAL CHANGE

The core idea of this design was to collaborate with local charities and use various design strategies to nudge guests into donating to bring about a real positive influence. Local food banks, environmental volunteering and organisations such as Crisis all benefit from a small donation at the end of a fresh meal.

the concept

With sustainability, community and the local economy at heart, The Living Table follows a rich but earthy colour palette and various aesthetics inspired by the different cultures that make up Plymouth's racial makeup. Intergenerational design maximises the experience for different situations, as well as producing zero waste through recycling, composting and zero plastics.

A COMMUNITY HUB

When the night gets later, guests are able to attend the jazz bar beneath the restaurant, immersive in its 1920's New Orleans and New York jazz club aesthetics. Giving a nod to the music's origins, the interior features a subtle Caribbean and art-Deco colour palette, as well as theories like environmental psychology and CPTED that ensure the safety of users in a night-life environment.

VISUALISATIONS

hearth room

Gather around a central fire pit that sparks conversation as you share food that makes strangers feel like family.

Entrance bar

The heart of the Living Table - a fruiting pomegranate tree that frames the centre of the bar, symbolising people as the smaller parts that together can make a greater whole.

experiential seating

Lighting is easily changed to alter the mood of the room - you are dining in a living and breathing space.

An inclusive solution to modern day health problems caused by a poor socio-economic climate.

earth's materials

Sombre follows a minimal but immersive colour palette inspired by the natural materials of the surrounding area - raw timber, slate and granite. The texture of natural stone combined with forest views and the sound of running water grounds one back with nature. Treatments are not only inspired by various cultures rooted in holistic healing, but are supported by real scientific evidence.

Features

the sound of rain

Total immersion with light control and the sound of natural elements. Architectural lighting guides the way without ruining the atmosphere and emphasising the organic stone textures.

area segregation

Zoning the shared relaxation areas ensures more privacy in an open space where comfort is key.

immersive steam room

Experience the feel of a rainforest in a steam room surrounded by tropical plants and waterfalls.
